Can I scan or copy in the library?

Unfortunatly we don't have a possibility to scan or copy books or magazines.

Do I have to be a TU-member to borrow books?

Not necessarily. You need a valid TU-ID or valid library-card of the Volkswagen library, which can be obtained there.

Which languages books do you offer in the library?

Our library offers books for learning Chinese, German, English, French, Italian and Spanish.

Furthermore we have some media for Arabic, Danish, Esperanto, Finnish, Gaelic, German sign language, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Catalan, Korean, Latin, Dutch, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Swahili, Thai, Czech, Turkish, Hungarian and Vietnamese.

 

Moreover our library also covers some novels, didactic, social and linguistic books, bibliographies, reference books, dictionaries and magazines in different languages.

Am I allowed to study in the library?

Of course, there are fifteen workplaces available. One of them is equipped with a PC.

We just ask you to leave your jackets and bags in the locker right next to the entrance. Please note, that we do not assume any liability.

Where do I find the corresponding CDs to the books?

You can find the CDs in the Mediothek downstairs. Unfortunately it isn’t possible to borrow the CDs. They are for use in the library only.

How long is the lending period?

You can keep the books for 28 days

How do I extend?

All borrowed items can be renewed independently via your library account using TU-Login as long as they are not pre-ordered by sombody else.

How much is the fine?

If you have not returned a book in time, you will receive a fine accordingly:

The first warning is 2 Euros per overdue book.

The second warning is extra 5 Euros per overdue book.

The third warning is extra 8 Euros per overdue book.

Where can I pay my fines?

Overdue fees can be paid by cash or bank / credit card at our pay

machine on the ground floor in the main library. Payment by bank transfer is also possible.

Please note: It may take one to two weeks until bank transactions are processed and fines are cleared from your library account.

Your books will not be automatically renewed by paying your overdue fees.

Do I have to pay my fines even though I did not receive an email of reminder?

Please keep in mind, that our emails are just a service on our part. If you do not receive an email for whatever reason, it is still your duty to return the books or extend the loan period on time.

Can I return my books at other libraries of the TU?

No, unfortunately that is not possible.

If the library is already closed, you can bring your books to the Mediothek, which is located one floor below our library (3.12).

Where can I find out about exceptional closing times?

The latest news about exceptional closing times will be released on our website www.zems.tu-berlin.de/bibliothek as soon as possible.

Can I make book suggestion myself?

We are always glad to consider your recommendations, however we can only process them at the end of the year.
