TestDaF - Test of German as a Foreign Language

The TestDaF is a centrally developed, standardized test for anyone who plans to study in Germany or requires recognized certification of his or her language skills.

Here, you will find answers to frequently asked questions pertaining to the TestDaF :

... what is the TestDaF?

The TestDaF is a language test for non-native German speakers. Similar to the TOEFL-Test, the TestDaF can be taken in one´s home country and can be repeated as often as needed.

The TestDaF consists of four separate parts, in which “Reading Comprehension”, “Listening Comprehension”, “Written Production”, and “Oral Production” are assessed. The test results are assigned to different levels (Levels 3–5), and a certificate detailing the test results is issued.

FAQ-Liste

... why take the TestDaF?

Taking the TestDaF in your home country can save time and money. It is no longer necessary to travel to Germany to receive recognized certification of your language skills. Additionally, you can further save on costs because taking a previous exam or participating in German language courses are not prerequisites for taking the TestDaF.

It is quite easy to prepare for the TestDaF, as the test is the same in all countries.

The TestDaF assesses each part of your language skill set separately. This enables universities to accept candidates for a course of study, even if their level of proficiency is not the same for each skill set.
