Pre-Semester intensive German course

Preparatory German Courses for Incomings

Learn German and get to know your university, before the semester starts!

An offer of the Centre of Modern Languages (ZEMS) for international students of all faculties


Pre-Semester German Course
1st of March - 1st of April 2021

Compulsory assessment tests: 1st and 2nd of March 2021
80 teaching hours (20 days, 4 teaching hours per day) 

Small groups (approx. 15 participants)
6 ECTS points (in case of successful attendance) 
The German Intensive Courses in March 2021 will take place mostly online via videoconference due to the measures currently in place to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, you will receive a plethora of materials through the ZEMS-Moodle learning platform (exercises, interactive tools, writing and speaking assignments, audio and video listening as well as vocabulary exercises etc.). You will work on these assignments both individually as well as in small groups. Please reserve at least 4 hours daily for these assignments. 
We will also offer a few in-person activities, e.g. excursions, as far as the measures to contain the COVID 19 pandemic in Berlin allow.

Requirements for ERASMUS students

Please note that for Erasmus+ students the intensive courses are offered on level B1 and higher according to the Common European Framework of Reference. Thus Erasmus+ students’ German level has to be at least A2. Your proficiency level will be assessed at the beginning of the course with the internationally recognized placement test OnDaF (www.ondaf.de). Students whose level is under A2 have to pass a short individual oral test. Erasmus+ students who cannot prove the at least the A2 level won’t be admitted to the intensive course. This is part of TU Berlin’s agreements with its partner universities. For information only and without responsibility you can check here your level of German.
